Hopefully this isn't too far off topic in this section.
I remember some people collecting rain water in barrels under a drain spout for various uses.
With the concern of pollution, what do you think this retained rainwater could safely be used for?
I expect if it drains off of tar coated shingles on a roof, it may not be suitable for watering a vegetable garden? Maybe it would be alright for watering a lawn?

I know for a fact that in our household we purchased a rainwater barrel holder that we use to collect rainwater, our roofing is not covered with tar but with a special substance which I can't quite remember the name for (I think it starts with something like poly-). We use our rainwater only for water our flowers and the lawn, but there could probably be other uses for rainwater such as using it for flushing the toilet.

Ricardo,it seems you have never been to an authentic ranch before,or the 'country side'.I have taken many showers under the rain barrel heated by the summer sun. It's wonderful, and you can build it yourself! Let me tell you how : take a barrel, make a hole at the bottom, put a 'sealed' hose, lift the barrel up on something, wait for rain, let it heat in the sun a day, then enjoy the shower! It's really great.

I collect our rainwater and use it all the time for things. Use it to water the lawn, the flower beds, clean stuff. There is no reason it should go to waste, wish I had a barrel for each spout.

I was wondering about using the rain water for other applications other than just water the lawns and stuff, but it is quite the renovation project to bring the water into the house and put it somewhere such as inside the toilet tank. I live in an urban area so if theres any cheap way to do, please share

The country I was brought up in really used the rain water for various other purposes due to the deficiency of water in our place. According to some tales of grandma, it is said that people who get take bath with rain water turn out to become fair and beautiful, not sure if thats true....funny.
